Mass Guidelines and New Seating Arrangements

By May 9, 2020No Comments

The Archbishop has announced Masses are now opened to the public, albeit in limited numbers. With the Archbishop’s decree, in effect Saturday, May 9, now it is possible for some to participate actively in Mass.

Our goal is to provide a safe way to receive the Lord while preventing the virus from spreading, so here is some important information:

  • Only ten people are allowed inside the Church, and they are to practice safe social distancing. A family household counts as one unit. (Servers and musicians do not count, but they are to refrain from interaction with the rest of the congregants). 4 out of the 10 units will be reserved for lectors (2) and Eucharistic ministers (2).
  • 6 spots for family units will be opened for parishioners who would like to participate inside the temple area. To reserve a spot they will need to reserve a spot online (through Signup Genius) or call the office.
  • If the spots are filled up for one Mass, remember that any Mass, regardless of the day, is a good opportunity to hear the Word of God and receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
  • In addition, we will accommodate individual families to use certain rooms within the parish, in ways that would avoid interactions from each other.
  • By signing up for Flocknote, you will start receiving texts/emails from us. If you still have not
  • Please do not feel pushed to come. If you do not feel comfortable coming, because you or someone you care about might be at risk, remember that the Sunday obligation to attend mass is still lifted. We are only providing an opportunity for those who can and want to receive the Sacraments. If you are impeded from that, try to find other ways to make your Sunday holy, like watching Mass.
  • If you feel sick, PLEASE STAY HOME. Charity demands that we take care of others even at the expense of our own needs.
  • We will continue to provide for live streaming options, on Facebook and YouTube, for those who would rather stay at home.  Additionally, you can also use our Drive-In Mass option by reserving a spot in the parking lot and watching the livestream of the Mass from your vehicle

If you choose the Drive-In Mass option, here are the guidelines:

  • For the safety of everyone, all parishioners must stay in their vehicles at all times.
  • We strongly suggest wearing a mask while on church property.
  • Parishioners will need to park in the designed parking spots only.  There must be one empty parking spot between each vehicle.  Volunteers will be on-site to direct you where to park.  Parking spots will only be available in the parking lot as well as a few spots in front of the church.  For the safety and health of our neighbors, parking on side streets will not be available.
  • During Communion, the Priest or Eucharistic Minister will bring the Body of Christ directly to your vehicle.  Please remain in your vehicle and roll down your window as he or she approaches.  Remain in your car at all times.  Please be prepared to receive the Body of Christ in your hands.   If you would not like to take Communion, please leave your window rolled up. An usher will be offering hand sanitizer to each parishioner before he/she takes Communion.  Alternatively, parishioners can choose to sanitize their own hands with sanitizer brought from home.
  • When Mass concludes, volunteers will be on-site to direct you out of the parking lot.

Mass is available on Facebook or by calling into a conference line.   Please note: if you call into the conference line, you will only be able to hear the Mass not see it.  If you plan to watch on Facebook, please make sure to bring your phone or tablet (with the Facebook app already downloaded).  We do have Wifi available (look for the network “SJBChurchGuest”). However, Wifi around our campus is spotty so you might need to use your personal device’s hotspot.
