Unción de los enfermos
“¿Hay alguno entre vosotros enfermo? Deberá convocar a los presbíteros de la iglesia, y orarán sobre él y lo ungirán con aceite en el nombre del Señor, y la oración de fe salvará al enfermo, y el Señor lo resucitará”.
Santiago 5:14-15
Cristo, entendiendo la enfermedad humana, entregó a su Iglesia el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos para que todos los bautizados puedan acceder y experimentar su Espíritu sanador. Este sacramento de misericordia y curación se administra tanto a los moribundos como a los que están gravemente enfermos o a punto de sufrir una operación grave. El Sacramento de la Unción ofrece oraciones por la recuperación, pero principalmente brinda curación espiritual y la paz y el coraje del Espíritu Santo para las dificultades de la enfermedad o la fragilidad de la vejez.
La unción no debe retrasarse por ninguna enfermedad u operación grave. Una persona que ha sido ungida no necesita ser ungida nuevamente dentro de la misma enfermedad. También es importante estar preparado para recibir el Sacramento de la Reconciliación al recibir el Sacramento de la Unción de los Enfermos (si pueden).
Es a través del Orden Sagrado que la misión confiada por Cristo a sus apóstoles continúa ejerciéndose en la Iglesia hasta el fin de los tiempos: por eso es sacramento del ministerio apostólico".

In illness, man experiences his powerlessness, his limitations, and his finitude…Illness can lead to anguish…It can also make a person more mature, helping him discern in his life what is not essential so that he can turn toward that which is. “The Church believes and confesses that among the seven sacraments there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are being tried by illness, the Anointing of the Sick…The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived….If a sick person who received this anointing recovers his health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again. If during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. It is fitting to receive the Anointing of the Sick just prior to a serious operation.
